The word Väärti on the side of our taxi — what does it mean?
Väärti — in Sámi verddet — is an old value from Lapland, built on mutual trust, equality and the idea of helping one another. Its roots go back to the days when lumberjacks worked along the Ounasjoki River. A seasoned worker once gently patted a younger man on the shoulder and said, “you’ve surely earned a coffee, my friend.” That small moment of recognition stayed with him for decades, symbolising how being seen and supported can carry you through life.
